CAF super cup: Leopards take battle to Al Ahly


The annual event, CAF super cup match is a one-off game where holders of CAF champions league take on winners of confederation cup and the victor is crowned with a trophy including a prize money of $75,000 while the vanquished receives a consolation prize of $50,000.
This year’s edition comes this afternoon in the military owned 85,000 capacity stadium in the Egyptian resort of Borg El Arab, 50 kilometers west of Alexandria, between the CAF champion league winners Al Ahly of Egypt and AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville who won the last year’s confederation cup.

The Egyptians, playing in front of their home fans are favored to lift the trophy considering their current top form and being the most successful club in CAF competitions with 15 titles – 7 champions league, 4 super cup and 4 African cup winners.
On the other hand, the Congolese will rely on a handful friendlies played to acquire competitiveness because their domestic league season has not kicked off, though their coach, Cameroon-born Joseph Omog vows to plot strategies that will give them victory.
However, coach of Al Ahly, Hossam El Badry is poised to lift the trophy despite having injured defender Sayed Moawad and midfielders Hossam Ghaly, Ahmed Seddik out of team.
