Ghana international Paintsil in cell for stabbing wife

As at press time, John Paintsil’s wife is reportedly in critical conditions after being stabbed by her husband. Police in Ghana confirmed that the former West Ham, Fulham and now Hapoel Tel Aviv player was locked inside the cell at the Legon police station in Accra and that he may be bailed and charged to court on Monday.

Mr. Freeman Tettey, spokesman of Accra police said that “the information available to us is that he stabbed his wife in the upper eyelid, we had to quickly rescue the wife and send her to the hospital. For now, he is in our custody and we are in the investigation process. We are holding him in lock for causing harm to his wife and assaulting his neighbor” Mr. Tettey said on Friday.

He narrated further that “the wife scaled a wall to a neighbour’s house for protection and immediately, John Paintsil also pursued her, came to the neighbour’s house, gave him some slaps and threatened to shoot him. That scared the gentleman who rushed to the police to lodge a complaint”.

On Paintsil’s wife condition, Mr. Tettey added that “ she collapsed, which suggests she is in a critical condition, but for now we don’t know her current state, when she is stable, we can start taking statements from her.”

John Paintsil is a member of the Ghana’s Black Stars team that finished fourth at the 2013 Africa Cup Of Nations staged in South Africa where the Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged winners.
