Egypt lift CAF - U20 trophy

Egypt has won this year's editon of the CAF - U20 tournament after beating Ghana 5 - 4 on penalties. The final ended 1 - 1 after regulation and extra-time. Egypt went ahead 3 minutes into the game thanks to a penalty converted by Saleh Gomaa but Ghana equalized in the 7th minute also through a penalty kick scored by Jeremiah Arkoful.
From this tournament 4 african countries have emerged to represent the continent in the U20 World Cup slated to run from 21st
June to 13th July this year in Turkey.
Egypt will play in Group E with Chile, England and Iraq while Ghana is in Group A with Spain, France and USA.
In Group B, Nigeria is drawn alongside Portugal, South Korea and Cuba. Mali is in Group D with Mexico, Greece and Paraguay.

George Weah's son in trials at Chelsea

Former Liberian international star George Weah has taken his thirteen year - old son, Timothy Weah to Chelsea in London for trials. Timothy who is a striker like his father will remain at the london-based club for a while inorder to learn, his father told journalists.
George Weah played his club football with Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and  AC Milan. He won the FIFA player of the year and the African best footballer in 1995.

Nigeria wins bronze at CAF - U20 ahead of Egypt VS Ghana finals

Two goals scored by the prolific nigerian striker, Aminu Umar gave the Flying Eagles of Nigeria a 2 - 1 win against the Eaglets of Mali in the third place match of the CAF U - 20 tournament coming to an end this evening (Saturday) with the final tie between Egypt and Ghana in Ahmed Zabana stadium in Oran, Algeria.
Ghana and Egypt have both won the tournament three times and whichever team that wins today will increase their honour to fourth title , two away from Nigeria who has won it for six times in the past.

Galatasaray offers £12m for Gervinho

The Turkish side,Galatasaray are making moves to bring Gervinho who is an Ivorian international forward presently playing in English Premiership with Arsenal FC to Istanbul. According to reports by Daily Mail, Galatasaray are ready to offer £12m inorder to sign him.Two other Ivorians, Didier Drogba and Emmanu
el Eboue are already playing with Galatasaray in the Turkish league.

FIFA calls CAF suspended referee for Brazil World Cup

Slim Jdidi who is the Tunisian referee banned indefinitely by Confederation of African Football(CAF) after he made a series of errors in the semi-final of Afcon 2013 between Ghana and Burkina Faso on 6 February and sending off Burkina Faso's forward, Jonathan Pitropia has been shortlisted by FIFA to join 52 other referees for seminars organized by the world football governing body FIFA for officials considered to officiate in Brazil next year.
Jdidi and 6 other african referees will attend the African zone seminar in Casablanca from 27 - 30 April while Asuncion(CONMEBOL), Zurich(UEFA), Dubai(AFC&OFC) and Fort Lauderbale(CONCACAF) are venues for other World Cup candidate refereeing teams from other continents.
Slim Jdidi has not officiated in any international match since 6 February.
The other 6 african referees are Alioum Neant(Cameroon), Bennett Daniel F. (South Africa), Diatta Badara(Senegal), Doue N. Desire(Ivory Coast), Gassama Bakary Papa(Gambia) and Haimoudi Djamel(Algeria). They will be joined by 14 african assistant referees(linesmen) in Casablanca.
After seminars and trainings, only 30 referees will make it to
Brazil.

Kano Pillars maintains pole position

Kano Pillars who won the Nigerian premier league last year are leaving no stone unturned inorder to retain the title this year. They are presently the league leaders at nine points after three wins and a defeat where they conceded the only goal in the tournament to rank as the best defence.
Enugu Rangers,, Kwara United and Sunshine Stars who are jointly occuping the second position with eight points are the only unbeaten sides so far.

South Africa seeks change of World Cup qualifier's venue

Following the on-going civil war in the Central African Republic and the death of 13 South African soldiers in the war, the president of South African football association(SAFA), Mr. Kirsten Nematandani has completed plans to write to CAF to demand for a change of venue to a neutral ground for their World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic on June 9th.

Mr. Nematandani said that they sympathize with the people of CAR for the turmoil in their country but argued that his association has to plan ahead.

Mozambique midfielder Simao Mate signs for Levante

The 24 years old Mozambique defensive midfielder, Simao Mate who once played for Panathinaikos from 2007-2012 and was playing with Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League until earlier this year has signed a two year contract with Spanish club Levante.

According to him, Levante is a club he has been liking for sometime and he needed to train more to have fitness. Signing Simao is of great beneficial to the team as the club President Francisco Catalan believes one of their technical needs in the field has been gotten.

Knee injury in Cameroon keeps Eto'o out

Last weekend in Yaounde, Cameroon, Samuel Eto'o scored twice to help the Indomitable Lions to a 2 - 1 victory over Togo in a World Cup qualifier before procuring a knee injury that will keep him out of football action for atleast three weeks.
No doubt his absence will penalize his clubside, Anzhi Makhachkala who are contending the Russian premier league title and a qualification for next year's UEFA champions' league with other top sides like CSKA Moscow and Zenit Petersburg.

Egypt and Ghana reach the finals of CAF U - 20 championship

The two teams who will dispute the finals of this year's CAF - U20 championship in Oran, Algeria on Saturday have emerged. They are Egypt who defeated the defending champions, Nigeria 2 - 0 on Tuesday at Ain Temouchent and Ghana following their 4 - 2 win over Mali after penalty shoot-outs. The match which was played on Tuesday at Ahmed Zabana stadium in Oran ended goalless even after the extra-time.

Namibian coach resigns

He was hired a year and half ago with the task of qualifying Namibia for Afcon 2013 and the World Cup in Brazil next year. But after failing to take the team to South Africa, Bernard Kaanjuka's remaining mission of qualifying for the World Cup was disrupted on Saturday following their 1 - 0 defeat at home by Namibia and consequently moving down the standings to the third place with two points off co-leaders Nigeria and Malawi.

Though there are still three matches to play, Bernard Kaanjuka announced his resignation on Tuesday and cited his failure to qualify for both tournaments as his reasons.

Egypt grab a narrow win

Egypt defeated Zimbabwe 2 - 1 on tuesday following two second half goals scored by Hosny Abd Radou 65 minutes into the game and Mohammed Aboutrika in the 87th minute after converting a penalty. With the victory the Pharaohs are topping group G with 9 points having won all their matches played so far and are four points ahead of the second-placed Guinea.
Though there are other three matches remaining to determine who wins the group, the Egyptians are close to finishing at the top and qualify into the third round, where the ten group winners will play off over two legs to determine the countries that will fly to Brazil 2014.
Elsewhere, Algeria showed supremacy over Benin with a 3 - 1 victory in Blida to join Mali with 6 points at the top of group H table.
